Hand Treatments at Monaco MedSpa

in Midtown Miami, FL

When it comes to skin rejuvenation, we shouldn’t forget about the hands. The back of our hands often give away our age faster than anything. Hands tend to lose volume and look very thin and veiny as we age. Not to mention the sun spots! But, no worries, because now we have dermal hand fillers and many different treatments to remove dark spots from the back of our hands.

Treating Hand Volume Loss

There’s no denying that age affects our appearances in numerous ways and unfortunately, in the past, there wasn't much we could do to hide the volume loss and wrinkles on our hands. Now, there are certain treatments we can undergo to keep our skin quality young-looking and one such treatment is hand filler. As we age, the collagen production in our bodies and hands decreases exponentially, which causes wrinkles in thin-skinned areas like the hands to become more prominent. Hand fillers help to replace the volume lost, resulting in a smoother, less-wrinkled hand texture.

Hand fillers are dermal fillers made up of hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance in the body. Hyaluronic acid is responsible for hydrating and lubricating the skin, and helps create more youthful-looking skin. It has a strong affinity for water and so it helps trap moisture beneath the surface of your skin. Dermal fillers immediately add volume to your hands and soften the wrinkles there. They can help fill in “creases” in your hands, giving your hands a more youthful and smoother appearance.

As we age, the skin on the back part of our hands becomes thin and wrinkly and the thick veins and tendons become very visible. Hand filler is used to increase volume and reduce crepiness and wrinkles on the dorsal part of the hand. Hand fillers work by plumping the tissues, transferring and capturing water, and stimulating collagen production.

The treatment requires a series of injections. Hand filler is placed at strategic points in the back of the hand and then massaged to spread it evenly. Usually one or more syringes per hand are required. The effects of the treatment will depend on the amount of collagen that was lost. Depending on the circumstances, the effects may last anywhere from 6 months to a year, but they can be maintained indefinitely with regular touch-ups.

Dermal hand fillers can be used to reduce wrinkles, add volume, and hide the veiny networks that form on the top of the hands as we age. Hand fillers may be just what you were looking for to give your hands a more youthful and smoother aspect. They are a cost-effective way of restoring your hands to their youthful appearance.

Treating Age Spots On Hands

Age spots, also called sun spots, are brown spots on the back of the hand. The skin on the back of the hands is very prone to getting these dark spots as we age. There are several ways to lighten these spots. Some age spots respond phenomenally well to Lasers and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy. Others tend to be harder to treat and may require one or more treatment modalities or one or more IPL treatment sessions.

Treatments For Age Spots

There are several therapies used to treat age spots on your hands. These include:

  • Prescribed medications such as bleaching creams (hydroquinone) and retinoids (tretinoin). Our doctor specially compounds these medications with a series of ingredients that include bleaching agents such as hydroquinone, melanocyte inhibitors, and retinoids, such as tretinoin. Each formulation is tailored to the patient's skin tone and dark spot severity. These compounded medications sometimes cause temporary itching, redness, burning and/or dryness.
  • Laser and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapies destroy melanin-producing cells (melanocytes) without damaging the skin's surface. These treatments normally require two to three sessions. IPL lasers are a great way to reduce age spots, leaving you with a clearer, more even skin tone.
  • Chemical peels involve removing the top layers of the skin (epidermis) with chemical solutions. The new skin that grows in its place tends to be smooth and age spot free. Chemical peel treatments may require several sessions and sometimes need to be combined with other treatment modalities so that the new skin that grows does not become hyperpigmented. In sunny climates such as Miami, chemical peels are not the best option to treat age spots because during the healing process the hands cannot be exposed to the sun at all.

Age Spots Post-Treatment Care

Post-treatment care requires you use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 and wear protective clothing when outdoors otherwise the age spots may return. SPFs containing 10% zinc oxide or more are the best ones. Those containing hyaluronic acid and zinc oxide 10% or greater are even better. The Monaco MedSpa skincare line SPF's all have hyaluronic acid and zinc oxide 10% and are some of the best SPFs available.
